Language Schools in Brazil

Portuguese is the official and national language of Brazil, spoken by nearly all of its population, alongside many minority languages (as published by Wikipedia on 2026-10-17). Portuguese courses for foreigners are offered by private schools and universities, and Brazil has an official proficiency exam, the Celpe-Bras.

Celpe-Bras

As published by Inep (Brazil's education research agency) on 2026-10-17: Celpe-Bras is the official Brazilian exam certifying proficiency in Portuguese as a foreign language, run by Inep with support from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Brazil and abroad. It has a written part and an oral part. This is an exam, not an accreditation of language schools. official source

Visas

As published by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 2026-10-17: its consular visa page links to information on visas for foreigners travelling to Brazil and to a general visa regime chart. Check those pages and the Brazilian consulate serving you for rules on short courses; rules change. official source
